Indianapolis, Ind. Porsche Penske Motorsport driver Lauren Heinrich kept his slim hopes of both a driver and manufacturer championship alive in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship with a third-place finish on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Heinrich and Kevin Estre teamed for the podium finish in the No. 6 Porsche 963 in the penultimate round of the season. After surviving a turn one, lap one incident that sent the sister No. 7 to the garage for 22 laps, the duo stayed in the top five for the duration of the two-hour, 40-minute race.

The finish, one position behind the rival Cadillac in the championship fight, leaves Heinrich 147 points behind heading to the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

The customer racing Porsche 963 of JDC-Miller MotorSport, driven by Tijmen van der Helm and Nico Müller, finished ninth. Wright Motorsports led the way amongst Porsche’s GT competitors in a Porsche 911 GT3 R, finishing sixth in the GTD class with drivers Adam Adelson and Callum Ilott.
